Over
200 representatives from InterAction and its member agencies attended
the 1995 UN Conference and NGO Forum and worked with NGOs from around
the world to shape and secure a strong Platform for Action. The CAW coordinated
the NGO "Conference of Commitments Scoreboard" in Beijing and
widely publicized the commitments which governments made throughout the
following year. These commitments served as a vital bridge to the development
a national action plans, as called for in Platform. Since 1996, the CAW
has continued to promote Conference follow-up, both on the international
and national levels. At the United Nations, the CAW joins forces with
other NGOs to monitor and advance implementation of the Platform for Action
at the annual UN Commission on the Status of Women meetings. At home,
the CAW focuses on holding the US government accountable for action to
attain gender equality. The CAW contributed to the development of the
US National Women's Action Agenda, the US version of the Beijing Platform.
