“Gems” of Conflict Practice

Conflict sensitive approaches to development, humanitarian assistance, and peacebuilding: Tools for peace and conflict impact assessment
A joint FEWER, International Alert and Saferworld program that was designed to help people working in these different ields to contribute more effectively to conflict prevention, especially through the mainstreaming of conflict sensitivity. It produced an especially helpful resource pack.

Designing for Results: Integrating Monitoring and Evaluation in Conflict Transformation Programs
This manual, written by Cheyanne Church and Mark Rogers and produced by Search for Common Ground in partnership with the United States Institute for Peace and the Alliance for Peacebuilding is the first of his kind to focus on the particular needs of the conflict transformation field. It addresses the many challenges faced by conflict transformation practitioners in their attempts to measure and increase the effectiveness of their work with practical tips and examples from around the world.

Options for Aid in Conflict: Lessons from Field Experience
Edited by Mary Anderson and a product of Collaborative for Development Action, this document is known as the “Options Manual: and is written by and for aid workers in conflict areas. Drawing on field experience, it is meant to help the field staff of international aid agencies to understand their working contexts better and to develop programming approaches that support peace rather than war.

Another useful tool from CDA is the Do No Harm Handbook

“Regional Perception Survey of Conflict and Cooperation in Central Asia Region”
This is a questionnaire Counterpart International used during the 2004 Regional Perception Survey of Conflict and Cooperation in the Central Asia Region, funded by the World Bank. It is by no means an exhaustive questionnaire; however, it provided a wealth of useful information concerning perceptions and attitudes surrounding conflict in Central Asia. The results of the survey contributed to the recent UNDP Human Development Report for Central Asia.

Berghof Handbook for Conflict Transformation is a comprehensive and cumulative website resource that provides continually updated cutting-edge knowledge, experience and lessons learned for those working in the field of transforming violent ethnopolitical conflict.
