About
the Humanitarian Policy and Practice Committee
The Humanitarian Policy
and Practice Committee serves as an umbrella for coordinating
all of InterAction's work in refugee and disaster assistance. The new
committee provides member NGOs with a framework for consultation, coordination
and advocacy on behalf of people forcibly displaced or otherwise affected
by conflict, natural disaster and oppression. It addresses issues relating
to the protection and assistance of refugees and internally displaced
people, as well as operations, security and coordination in disaster
response.

The Committee is composed of InterAction member organizations working on refugee and displaced persons issues and in disaster response, and includes around 70 operational and advocacy groups. Membership in the HPPC is open to InterAction members only. The HPPC has two co-chairs, one in Washington, DC and one in New York. Co-chairs serve one three-year term (staggered), and are elected by the Committee. The Committee holds two regular internal business meetings per year. InterAction’s Humanitarian Policy and Practice Team (HPPT) provides staff support for the Committee.
