RESULTS

Statement of Purpose

Begun in 1980, the purpose of RESULTS is to create the political will to end hunger and the worst aspects of poverty, and to heal the break between people and government. Against the background of silent indifference toward our elected officials, the voices of committed citizens can make an enormous difference. Working with its international RESULTS partners in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico and the UK, RESULTS has had a widespread impact in creating the political will to end hunger and poverty by beginning a movement for the health and well-being of children everywhere.

Programs & Activities

Development Education
RESULTS coordinates press conferences and generates editorials and letters to the editor to help focus attention on child survival programs including microenterprise and The World Summit for Children. In February 1997, RESULTS Educational Fund convened the Microcredit Summit, the first global gathering of its kind, to launch a campaign to ensure that 100 million families, especially the women of those families, are using credit for self-employment and other financial and business services by the year 2005.

Public Policy and Advocacy
RESULTS volunteers identify the most cost-effective programs which positively impact the lives of the poorest of the poor and advocate for increased funding and replication of those programs by hosting press conferences, writing hundreds of letters to Congress, generating editorials in major newspapers, and visiting members of Congress in Washington, DC and in their districts.
