Trickle Up Program, The
Statement of Purpose The mission of the Trickle Up Program is to help the lowest income people worldwide take the first step up, out of poverty, by providing conditional seed capital and business training essential for the launch of a microenterprise. This proven social and economic empowerment model is implemented in partnership with local agencies.
Programs & Activities
Enterprise Development
Trickle Up awards seed capital of $100 ($700 in the US) in the form of conditional grants, with business training, to families or groups of 3 or more people to assist them in starting or expanding their own businesses. It partners nearly 300 community organizations in the 32 countries where it currently operates to help implement its microenterprise development program. Trickle Up has helped more than a half million people in 119 countries to start or expand more than 100,000 businesses.
Trickle Up targets the poorest and most vulnerable segments of society, including women, refugees, people displaced by armed conflict or natural disaster, disadvantaged minorities, youth at risk, HIV/AIDS-affected families, victims of domestic abuse and illiterates. Trickle Up entrepreneurs report many benefits, including increased household income and better access to food, shelter, education and medical care. |
