MEMBERS ONLY: The Anti-Terrorism Act and Implications for NGOs

General counsels, policy and program staff at NGOs may not be aware that there is a private right of action for violations of the material support statute. For those that are aware of the ATA, they want to understand its implications for NGOs.

Lawsuits under the Anti-Terrorism Act have been filed against charities and the banks that serve them. As a handful of cases wind their way through the federal courts, what lessons can be learned and what should NGOs do to protect themselves against future legal action?
