Response to Senate Appropriations Committee’s Bipartisan Passage of the FY2025 State, Foreign Operations Bill

InterAction, the leading alliance of international non-governmental organizations and partners in the United States, released the following statement in response to the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Bipartisan Passage of the FY2025 State, Foreign Operations bill.

“InterAction deeply appreciates the Senate Appropriation Committee’s passage of the State, Foreign Operations bill. With the leadership of Senator Coons and Senator Graham, the bill provides $61.6 billion in total funding, a $3.2 billion (5.6%) increase on the Fiscal Year 2024 enacted levels.

“The Senate Appropriations Committee’s State and Foreign Operations bill recognizes the crucial role of global health, development, and humanitarian assistance in advancing U.S. national interests. In a time marked by rising authoritarianism, ongoing conflicts, and persistent food insecurity, this bill reaffirms America’s commitment to global leadership.

“InterAction particularly commends the support for long-term development funding, which is vital for fostering global economic growth and enhancing community resilience.

“Global needs are vast and urgent. Despite fiscal constraints and current funding caps, this bill demonstrates a bipartisan commitment to maintaining America’s leadership in international development and humanitarian assistance.

“As the legislative process advances, we anticipate collaborating with lawmakers across both chambers and party lines to craft a final appropriations package that adequately addresses critical U.S. global development and humanitarian priorities.”
