InterAction Statement on Terminations of Thousands of Foreign Assistance Programs

Washington, D.C. – InterAction, the leading alliance of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and partners in the United States, issued the following statement in response to the termination of thousands of life-saving awards.

Today, effective immediately, the State Department terminated 10,000 State and USAID grants and other awards, effectively crippling American foreign assistance, including life-saving programs for which Secretary of State Rubio had granted waivers.

Women and children will go hungry, food will rot in warehouses while families starve, children will be born with HIV—among other tragedies. This needless suffering will not make America safer, stronger, or more prosperous. Rather, it will breed instability, migration, and desperation.

In keeping with the moral decency and generosity of the American people, we urge the Secretary of State to reverse these decisions and immediately resume life-saving assistance.
