Mais Balkhi
Mais Balkhi joined InterAction's Humanitarian Practice team in August of 2019. She has over 11 years of work experience in managing emergency response and local development programs.
Prior to InterAction, Mais led advocacy efforts for humanitarian emergencies, including the Syria and Iraq crisis, as the Advocacy and Outreach Manager for Syria Relief and Development (SRD) and the co-chair of the Syria working group at InterAction. After SRD, Mais joined International Medical Corps’ Africa Desk where she supported the DRC, Nigeria, and Ethiopia country teams and managed grant implementation with a specific focus on USG awards.
Before moving to the United States in 2015, she worked as the Shelter Program Manager for Save the Children in Lebanon. As part of her role, Mais co-chaired the Shelter and WASH working groups where she contributed to the development of the clusters’ response strategies.
Mais grew up in Syria and lived there for most of her life. In Syria, she worked with local development organizations on community and youth empowerment programs.
Mais has a degree in Civil Engineering specialized in project management. In her free time, she likes to explore D.C.’s art and live music scenes.
