Funding the Future
InterAction Announces 2019 Initiating Change and Piloting Solutions Award Recipients
InterAction’s From Pledge to Action Project works with our Member organizations to change the structural and cultural barriers to addressing sexual harassment and abuse within the international aid community. The initiative is a three-year project to create a safer work environment for non-governmental organization (NGO) staff and beneficiaries.
To achieve long term sustainable change and advance the community, InterAction is providing two funding opportunities to support internal organizational improvements in safeguarding measures and facilitating innovative approaches that will lead to sector-wide learning.
There are two awards: “Initiating Change” grants and “Piloting Solutions” grants. The Initiating Change grants support organizations as they invest in small scale initiatives that facilitate their progress towards meeting the commitments of the CEO Pledge and their safeguarding strategic goals. Piloting Solutions grants are more substantial awards and are designed to support innovative approaches to preventing and responding to sexual harassment and abuse. These funding opportunities are offered annually, beginning in 2019 and concluding in 2021.
The From Pledge to Action team was deeply encouraged by the high volume of applicants for the first round of these grant opportunities. InterAction awarded 11 grants total to 12 organizations this year, and we look forward to the progress and learnings from these projects. Successful proposals demonstrated the anticipated impact and outlined how the evidence and learning within the program would benefit the NGO sector on safeguarding.
All proposals are reviewed blindly by the From Pledge to Action Advisory Committee, which is comprised of seven independent safeguarding experts who sit outside of InterAction’s Membership, including UNHCR representatives, CEOs, and subject matter experts.
