Leading aid agencies received at least 539 reports of sex abuse and harassment last year, and increase of 13 percent from 2017.

“Our member organizations have already shown a strong commitment to addressing these issues," said Carolyn Aeby.

“We recognize the long-term effects that sexual abuse, exploitation, and harassment have on individuals and work cultures, and this pledge sets out a series of promises from NGOs leaders" said InterAction President Lindsay Coates .

“Donors need to be careful not to drive this issue underground through punishing organisations who come forward regarding internal findings and past faults[.]”

“There are broader cultural issues that go beyond whether or not you have a good policy or program to address sexual harassment and abuse because misogyny and inequality are topics that are deeply embedded in many institutions.”

On the issue of sexual harassment and misconduct, Green said it is an issue that he is paying personal attention to and that earlier this month he met with InterAction.

This guide was developed to assist InterAction member organizations in developing and implementing policies to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA).
