Lawrence Smith
Lawrence Smith joined InterAction in March 2023 as Chief Financial Officer. He has served in nonprofit finance leadership roles for more than 14 years. He is an expert in financial analysis, budgeting, performance measurement, strategic planning and execution, teambuilding, and leadership.
Prior to joining InterAction, Lawrence was the Director of Finance for the American Federation of Teachers, a federation of unions protecting the rights of teachers and nurses across the United States.
Lawrence started his career in public accounting at KPMG in their Washington National Tax Office performing research and writing on tax issues relating to partnerships, S-corporations, and limited liability companies.
During his career, Lawrence has had the privilege of applying his skills in the fields of healthcare, behavioral health, unions, and membership organizations.
Lawrence earned his accounting degree from the University of the District of Columbia and a master’s degree in taxation from American University. He is a licensed CPA in Washington, D.C. and holds the AICPA’s Certified Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation.
