Statement: Response to Four-Part Foreign Aid Package That Was Passed by the House
InterAction, the leading alliance of non-governmental organizations and partners in the United States, released the following statement in response to the four-part foreign aid package that was passed in the House.
“InterAction deeply appreciates the House’s passage of $9.2 billion in global humanitarian funding as part of supplemental appropriations, which provides urgent food, water, and shelter to people around the world.
“The House vote shows there continues to be strong support on both sides of the aisle for America to remain a leader on the global stage and that it will respond to humanitarian crises.
“Though we extend our appreciation for the $9.2 billion, we remain concerned about restrictions on funding to UNRWA, given its essential and irreplaceable humanitarian role in Gaza.
“We look forward to swift passage in the Senate, which already passed the same level of funding for humanitarian relief.
“As Congress shifts its focus to FY2025 appropriations, we implore it to craft and approve a State and Foreign Operations bill that acknowledges the persistent nature of the current global challenges.
“While supplemental funds aimed at assisting innocent people caught in crises beyond their control are crucial, a proactive approach that anticipates rather than reacts to emergencies is imperative.”
